MPR, in support of the D.C. Chapter of U.S. Women in Nuclear (U.S. WIN), will participate in the Smithsonian Institute’s “Women in Aviation and Space” event at the Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museum’s, Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center, March 18th. The event, part of the Smithsonian’s “Heritage Family Days,” will highlight the significant contributions women have made throughout the history of aviation and space exploration.

U.S. WIN is a network of women and men who work in nuclear and radiation-related fields. MPR’s employees have been involved in U.S. WIN since 2001, participating in various conferences, professional development activities, and science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) outreach events. “We are proud of the number of MPR men and women who participate in community outreach and professional development organizations, like WIN,” MPR Principal Officer, Robert Carritte, said. “Outreach is an important means to deliver the nuclear message, and inspire young people to pursue careers in science and technology and what better way than at a U.S. WIN event.”

MPR engineers and U.S. WIN members Caroline Schlaseman, Christina Hamm, and Nidhi Sharma, will be staffing the U.S. WIN booth at the upcoming event, along with other members of the D.C. WIN chapter. Highlighting the energy landscape, they will engage the public in various activities including discussions about electric power generation, radioactivity and a game to demonstrate the concept of nuclear fission.
